The Nigerian Shippers’ Council in pursuit of its function of facilitating trade and protection of cargo on the road transport mode in major high-volume truck traffic corridors across the country. The truck transit park (TTP) project will address the unsafe situation posed by truck drivers who drive long distances without a needed short break due to the absence of a resting place. The drivers resort to parking on access ramp and road shoulders, with the associated economic costs of theft and pilferage of cargo, night travel, and the hazard of accidents due to fatigue and degradation of the environment. TTP in Lokoja will provide a resting place for truck drivers on the Okeni –Lokoja–Abuja road on the Lagos–Kano–Jibiya (Lakaji) corridor.
Facilities at the Lokoja Truck Transit Park will include an electronic drive in and exit gate with a digital plate number capturing device, fuel station, restaurants, rest rooms and showers, hotels and hostels, mechanic workshop, fire station, police post, rescue and towing services, welcome center (shopping mall), automated cargo tracking system, and so forth.
